Moving to Orange County: A Relocation Checklist

Moving across the country is challenging for families and children, which is why strategic planning matters from day one. Since 2001, I've assisted families from all over the United States relocate to California. Here's the process that works.

Months out: research, not rushing

Start with a personal and financial assessment — your commute, schools, lifestyle and budget. Orange County is not one market: Irvine's master-planned villages, Mission Viejo's lake life, Laguna Niguel's coastal hills and Costa Mesa's mid-century character all price and feel different. Browsing online is fine, but nothing replaces driving the streets at the times you'd actually live there.

Take a hosted city tour

One service my relocation clients consistently mention: I host client tours through multiple cities, sharing the region's identity and beautiful environmental landscape so you can feel the difference between the coast, South County and central Orange County before you commit. We'll look at real neighborhoods, not just listings.

House-hunting trip logistics

Most relocating families get one focused house-hunting trip. Make it count: get fully underwritten with a lender first, so you can write an offer the same week. I keep video tours and responsive communication going between trips so you never lose momentum across time zones.

Closing remotely

You can complete escrow from out of state — digital signatures, remote notarization and a local title company make it routine. I coordinate your lender, escrow officer and movers so the timeline lines up with your start date, not the other way around.

After you arrive

A move isn't done at closing. I stay connected as you settle in — contractors, schools, doctors, even which grocery store everyone uses. Relocation should end with you feeling at home, not just in a house.

Planning a move? Tell me what brings you to Orange County — I work with relocating families from the first question to long after the boxes are unpacked.
